Almondbury Library Local History Project.

I have long been interested in history and became involved in the local campaign to prevent the loss of our well loved Edwardian library building. The council's plans would have involved the closure of the original historic building which was Huddersfield's first purpose designed library funded by the Carnegie Trust. As part of the campaign I applied to get the building listed which nvolved a considerable amount of research. This revealed many unexpected stories not least that the building's designer had been the son of a poor crofter from the remote Scottish Highlands! My research was published in a booklet  escribed in the newspaper article below. I gave an illustrated presentation for the launch event of the  booklet which also features my watercolour of the library. The booklet can be ordered from Almondbury Library or via my website for a very reasonable sum of £2.00.
